You can find every type of person that tickles your fancy with online dating - but before you begin pinging every hot profile, make sure you know the 10 rules about online dating.

Your love life may be stalled for a number of reasons. A recently ended relationship might leave you stranded with a condensed social circle and feelings of loneliness. You might have experienced a recent change, like a divorce, graduating from college, or moving to a new city. No matter what the circumstance, it is hard to meet new people. Enter the world of online dating - full of variety, spice, and excitement. If you’re new to the online dating scene, there are several things that everyone should know.

1. Understand yourself

Determine what you are looking for in a relationship and state it clearly. If you just want to meet people for fun weekends and casual dating, let it be known. It is also acceptable to draw the line at chat rooms, if you don’t feel ready for face-to-face meetings. Whatever your standard is, be consistent and firm, ensuring that you do not get hurt.

2. Use your network

Many people are finding their relationships with online dating. You’ll be surprised to find out that your friends are spending time in chat rooms and sorting through profiles. Ask them what works, and what sites to use. The best advice comes from someone you trust.

3. Pace yourself

There is no need to rush into taking the next step with online dating. Spend as much time in the chat room or talking on the phone as you want - make sure you’re ready to meet face-to-face to create a good experience for the both of you.

4. Be totally honest

If you really want to experience success with online dating, you must be honest. While you cannot control the actions of others, maintaining accountability to yourself will thwart the temptation to attach someone else’s picture to your profile or lie about your past.

5. Manage your matches

Online dating can be overwhelming. It’s a lot easier to browse profiles of individuals that you know are looking for a relationship than to strike up a conversation with someone at the bar. Choose a few of the most interesting profiles, take notes, and limit yourself to corresponding with them at first. You can always look again if they don’t work out, and this will avoid too much activity and confusing emotions.

6. Not all text is truth

Unfortunately, not everyone will be as honest as you are. It’s acceptable to ask for references and check out verifiable information before agreeing to set up a face-to-face meeting. Don’t be afraid to ask for background checks or consult public records.

7. Mind your manners

Do not be inclined to get too intimately involved with someone in a chat room. Deep, personal discussions can get out of hand when they don’t occur face-to-face. Ask yourself if you would say certain things to someone on the phone or in a social setting, and use censorship. This will make sure that you do not hurt anyone else’s feelings or your own.

8. Paying for an online dating service might not be so bad

Websites that charge for entering chat rooms or making an online dating profile may turn you off at first glance. You might feel embarrassed or afraid to shell out hard earned money to a dating website; however, you can rest assured that if someone is willing to make the investment it costs to participate in online dating circles, it’s possible that they are very serious and willing to go the extra mile for you!

9. Be timely

Don’t have access to the internet everyday? This might cause problems in the online dating world. Those who try this method of socialization like to think they’ll receive quick responses. Be available, consider setting aside a specific time to spend in the chat room, and respond to emails in a timely fashion. Otherwise, you might find your potentials losing interest.

10. Safety first, second, and third

If you decided that a face-to-face meeting is in order, consider your own safety. Meet in a public place with many people and provide your own transportation. This applies to not only the first date, but the subsequent ones as well if you have a good time.

It’s the new year and with that comes a few more months of winter. While the cold weather and snow covered ground may have been pretty in December, by the end of January it starts to wear on you. It seems that the weeks leading up to spring are not only frigid but they are down right depressing. Because of the cold weather, lack of light, and the dreary surroundings many of us face a bout of seasonal depression. Beat the winter blues and help fight your winter worries with these terrific tips.

Light Up Your Day: It is believed that one of the biggest causes of Seasonal Depression is the decrease in serotonin caused by a lack of sunlight. Long hours spent at work under fluorescent lights are often met with early darkness which means a larger majority of people who work nine to five rarely see the sun. Combating this can be as simple as taking a walk during your lunch or replacing your home lights with halogen lights. Both of these solutions will boost your mood by subjecting you to light. When you get home from work try to turn on a few lights and refrain from sitting in dimly lit or dark rooms.

Day Dream: Is the cold weather bringing you down? Sometimes the one thing you want (sunny days) I the last thing you can get, but that doesn’t mean there is no hope. Throw away everything you’re parents told you about day dreaming and let your mind escape for a few minutes each day. When you’re having a particularly bad day, close your eyes and imagine your self in your favorite summer setting. Feel the sun on your body and the light that floods your mind. Let yourself enjoy your brief moment away from reality to really get your mind off the less than desirable winter weather.

Go Bright: Winter colors have a tendency to be drab and muted leaving your wardrobe representing your lack of enthusiasm. Whenever you’re feeling a little blue consider adding some bright hue’s to “brighten” your mood. Colors can have a positive or negative effect on your mood so take advantage of vibrant colors like reds and oranges to really bust those winter blues.

Get Active: The winter blues can take their toll on your physical and emotional well being. Often times, as the winter progresses you may find that you are less and less active. Being less active will not only add on some unwanted winter weight but it will also work to deepen your depression. Make it a point to be active at least three or four days a week. Even a half hour of running or cycling can help you improve your mood.

Buy a Plant: Looking out the window on a winter day can be a pretty depressing sight. Depending on where you live you may see tons of old snow that has turned black and brown and lifeless trees. You may not be able to change the outdoors but you can bring some life into your home, office, or apartment with a plant. For the ultimate boost choose one that lacks flowers so you can maximize the amount of oxygen in the room.

A real estate agent will guide you to - and through - the most important decision of your life. How do you know, for sure, that he will act in your best interests?

How do you know if he will really work for you? Is he too busy for you? What of his personal integrity? How much effort will he expend for you?

You will want to feel very comfortable with the real estate agent that you choose, comfortable enough to be able to say ‘no’ to the bargain of the month and ‘no’ to the almost perfect house.

He must not be intimidating to you, yet a business-like attitude and assertiveness are qualities you will want in a professional acting for you.

Often when you are choosing a business professional, the outcome is not so critical, but who wants to lose their dream property? Choosing a real estate agent falls into the same bracket as choosing a medical doctor or a lawyer.

The interview and short listing process is really all about finding one that you feel comfortable with. Real estate agents usually have a ‘presentation’. This is usually a very business-like procedure and if they are having an off day, the presentation may click in automatically.

However, you will need to get past the ‘rehearsed’ person and get to know the real one. Most real estate agents will have integrity, they have their reputations to think about, but you need to feel that you also have one that understands you and your wants.

Some real estate agents have amazing sales records, so ask about sales history. Ask if he would mind giving you some recent sales to choose references from. Gather up at least half a dozen and then choose your own references to phone. Before you phone, ask the real estate agent a few questions.

For instance: How long was each house on the market? How many were reduced and why? How many times and by how much?

Some other questions could be: Will there be a marketing plan drawn up for the sale of your house? Will it be carried out? What guarantees do you have? To see if the agent is keen and enthusiastic, ask him if he has taken any extra real estate courses.

See if you find his voice or tone very monotone; if so, do you find it relaxing, or would you prefer a lively voice generating a more energetic feeling?

Finally you must try and gauge the quality of his negotiating skills. Ask about commissions; in a house sale it will be necessary for you both to be able to discuss money amicably.

Observe the way the real estate agent explains things when you try and negotiate a lower rate. If he can convince you that his fee is fair and that he will have to work hard to earn it, then he can convince others to listen to his viewpoint when he is working for you!

All this discussion will give you enough time and a good basis on which to judge the personality of the real estate agent. Then the bottom line is that you have to pick someone that you feel you can trust.

No parents want their kids to be weaker or less active then their peers. Every child should develop his own talent. However, it is a mistake to count on school discipline alone to mold your kids. Good characters are growing from the combinations of school discipline and parenting.

Due to the daily working load, many parents find weary or losing patience in educating kids. And persistent preaching is generally considered not effective and tedious both by parents and children. An effective and easy way is introducing the element of playing into familial parenting.

Playing, the nature of kids and should not be deprived form a kid’s childhood. Also, knowledge and skills are faster learned in the process of playing. For parents, playing with their children is a pleasure, most people enjoy it, which serves a rest to their heart and soul.

Outdoor activities like go camping on weekends, go fishing, holding a private football match within families and friends, or simply go park. Such occasions all are the perfect opportunities to teach kids abilities, discipline and skills. In a camping, kids knows better about the speaking “no free lunch”, every thing come from efforts. In a competing match, kids should be taught the spirit of team working, in order to win. Fly your imaginations, and every thing can do outdoor.

The best indoor play with kids are assembly 3D puzzles, which are made of high quality plywood and are suitable for people of all ages. Children like playing puzzles, especially the color and shape-riching 3D puzzles. It’s quite a challenge for them without help though. Playing with them to build the puzzle and when it is accomplished, confidence and self proud are formed within them.

Puzzles also enhance the accordance of their hands and minds. The brain uses both sides (right and left) when it sees and thinks. This helps children to better unconsciously take in the content of shapes and colors contained in the puzzles, resulting in improved thinking and reacting ability. Unlike usual puzzle, a 3D puzzle helps kids better understand the space and shape, which will give them an upper hand in dealing with geometry.

Parents will get better results if they mix in telling some stories as well for the kids. Each puzzle should be specially chosen in themes that have either special history or legend. Depicting the stories while teaching them how to build the puzzle, which will make the interesting activity more pleasant. And you may find your kids gaining interests in history or other aspects after that. That is it, to help your kids build a wide interests and hobbies, which will explore the maximum potentials out of them.

Educate kids should be put in the first place of parents’ life. Try to playing with them, however, make the process happy and easy. Happy parenting.

When it comes to building a house, there are dozens of opportunities for making mistakes or bad decisions. Not to worry, you’ve hired a reputable builder who knows what he’s doing; these mistakes shouldn’t be an issue. Maybe in a perfect world, but all builders can make errors. These may be as simple as locating a shower head too low, causing you to stoop ever time you have a shower, or inconveniently locating a toilet paper roll so that you have to reach. It’s not a huge issue, but over time it gets pretty annoying.

Here are a few of the more common builder errors to keep an eye out for.

Outside of the House

Air conditioners should be located on the east or north side of the home for maximum efficiency, but ensure they are not located close to bedrooms. Although the newer units are fairly quiet, you’ll still here the compressors when the unit is in use.

Driveways should be wide enough that you don’t have to step on the grass when you get out of the car. If you have a double car laneway, you should be able to park two cars, side by side, without dinging the doors. A single lane drive should be no less than 12 feet wide and a double-wide driveway should be 22 feet wide.

A covered porch is a simple improvement you’ll thank your builder for time and again. Especially the next time you’re standing in the rain with your arms full of groceries, and fumbling for your keys.

Outdoor faucets should be conveniently located at the front and rear of the house. Think of where your gardens and planters will be situated for handy hose access.

Exterior electrical outlets are not used that often, but when they are needed, you want them close by. You’ll want them at the front, back and possibly the side, depending on the type of exterior work you’ll be doing. It’s great to have outlets installed in your soffits for handy Christmas light plug-ins.

Indoors

Interior Electrical outlets can be a huge source of frustration if they aren’t conveniently located. You’ll want to ensure they’re installed in the walls directly behind end tables, next to beds or couches, or on top of a fireplace mantle. You may also want some floor outlets in a home office or coffee table situated in the middle of a room. My biggest source of frustration was not having an outlet in the island in my kitchen.

Traffic flow should be examined when you’re planning your floor layout. Ensure that areas designated as pathways, won’t be obstructed by furniture. Usually a 36 inch width is chosen for stairways, you’ll appreciate increasing this to 42 inches or more in width.

Spongy floors can be avoided if you request extra stiff floors. The average building code for floors is 1/360, ask your builder to upgrade to a 1/480 deflection design instead.

Trusses are probably one of the least concerns of most new home owners, but so important for future renovation possibilities. If you intend on creating added living space in an attic or above a garage, request that your builder install a truss that will allow for added headroom in these areas. Also, have him install a real staircase in these spaces, not a fold-up model.

Less than two months after Microsoft lost a landmark antitrust case in Europe, a Norwegian software company filed a new complaint Thursday, challenging the U.S. software giant’s bundling of its Web browser with the Windows operating system. The complaint to the European Commission was filed by Opera Software, based in Oslo, a maker of browsers for personal computers and mobile devices. The company had $60 million in sales in 2006.

The company’s chief technology officer, Hakon Lie, said that the bundling of the Internet Explorer browser into Windows, which has more than 80 percent of the market share in Europe, violated European antitrust law.

In September, the second-highest European court upheld a 2004 ruling by the European Commission that Microsoft had illegally tied its media player to Windows. That ruling required Microsoft to market a version of Windows without its media player program.

“Of course the European Court of First Instance decision strengthens our case and that is in part why we decided to file this complaint now,” Lie said.

Switzerland’s biggest political party quit the cabinet Thursday, ending nearly half a century of government by consensus and opening what analysts see as a period of uncertainty in the previously predictable world of Swiss politics. The rightist Swiss People’s Party announced its decision to go into opposition a day after Parliament voted to remove its preferred candidate, the controversial industrialist Christoph Blocher, from the seven-member Federal Council, which serves as Switzerland’s cabinet.

That decision breaks with the “magic formula” introduced in 1959 by which Switzerland’s biggest political parties have shared out the seats in the Federal Council and taken collective responsibility for government policy.

“This is a shock, it’s the beginning of something new,” said Pierre Weiss, a Geneva assembly member of the center-right Liberal Party. “The outcome is still unpredictable.”

Blocher’s ejection from the council, in which he served for four years as justice minister, was sealed Thursday when the candidate elected by Parliament in his place, Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, accepted her nomination. Widmer-Schlumpf also came from the Swiss People’s Party but the party promptly withdrew its support from her and another Federal Council member from her party, Samuel Schmid, leaving two of the cabinet’s seven members without a parliamentary base.

The leader of the Swiss People’s Party’s parliamentary group, Caspar Baader, told lawmakers, “You have shown your disdain for the will of the voters. You have destroyed our system of values. You will have to pay the price.”

Blocher, a billionaire industrialist whose hard line on immigrants and tough criticism of the European Union helped steer the party to a victory in October elections, said he was quitting the government but not politics and would now be free “to say what I think.”

Far from being weakened, Blocher may gain popular appeal as a victim of secretive party machinations to eject him from the cabinet, Weiss said. Political analysts see Blocher as a strong contender to take over the presidency of the party Ueli Maurer, who has said he intends to step down in 2008.

The Swiss People’s Party is now expected to put pressure on the government, taking advantage of Switzerland’s system of democratic checks and balances, under which individuals can challenge government legislation through referendums if they attract sufficient public support.

As a result, politics in Switzerland’s will lose some of the predictability that has underpinned its stability, said Lucas Golder, an analyst at Gfs.Bern, a political research institute. The party has shown it can gain strong support particularly on relations with the European Union, foreign policy and on immigrant issues, he said.

The video game industry’s Entertainment Software Association (ESA) was not amused — especially because H&K had “conducted the survey as a way to show how eager it was to get the association as a client.” (ESA hired Powell Tate instead; H&K says it planned the poll before its pitch to ESA.) An ESA spokesperson called H&K’s actions “unprofessional and unethical,” adding that H&K’s “release of only part of the findings paints an inaccurate picture of the entertainment software industry.” Another question “is whether research done” to get new clients “tends to unfairly highlight negative aspects … in hopes of underscoring the need for PR or public affairs services,” according to PR Week. In related news, the PR firm Kohnke Communications is suing a software developer for “outstanding payments,” reports Ars Technica. Kohnke’s legal filings say the firm “convinc[ed video game] reviewers to write positive reviews,” and that — along with other “pre-launch successes” — should get the firm “an incentive compensation payment of up to $280,000 after the launch of Gods & Heroes,” the video game in question.
